On November 7, 2018, during a Rotary luncheon meeting, the Clay County Historic Preservation Commission gave four Preservation Awards. The awards were for documenting preservation to Russ Stone and Lynn Muller for photos of structures in the Vermillion Downtown and University Historic Districts), restoring and maintaining an historic site, the Spirit Mound Cemetery to Mark Wetmore representing the Spirit Mound Trust, and long term maintenance of the First Baptist Church built in 1889 and added onto in 1925.
